Currently, we do not control who determines our values, and we do not control which values receive awareness and subsequent funding. Whether it’s our well-being or our well water, our systems should allow us to self-determine and support the causes and commitments that we know that matter beyond  assessing 'value' with appropriations of cash transfer or quantitative units of investible time.

While we gradually recognized the symptoms of this institutional deep problem, as we previously lacked the solutions to effectively alter the appropriate systems, we now acknowledge that we must act, and our actions must hinge on our greater humanity as the basis for tracking societal movements. The overly simple storyline that our individual self-interest acts as a sole motivator of our collective freedom must change as the explanation for what we desire and devour reflects a more intriguing and nuanced narrative.
